I was born and raised in southern Iowa, then transplanted to Iowa City eight years ago for college, met my sons father, Jay and never left. When my son, Bo was born in 2013, I left my career in the healthcare field to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. It was the best decision I ever made and honestly never once questioned it. I quickly learned about and bought most of the hottest baby items on the market and found out which were necessary and those that were a flop. It was about three months after my son was born that I got interested in babywearing. After not being able to purchase a specific soft structured carrier I wanted anywhere within a 100 miles radius but online (which I thought was absolutely insane spending $150 on something I couldn’t try on, and didn’t know if I would like or my baby would like), thats when I thought about how opening a natural parenting boutique would fill a huge void in the corridor. In February 2015, with absolutely NO business degree or background, my friend who just happens to be my sister-in-law and I made our business plan from scratch. I’ll be honest with you, we had no idea what we were doing or how we were going to pull it off but we got it done, submitted it for financing, and were approved! We had the green light and couldn’t be more excited! We made a list of natural and eco-friendly products we wanted to carry, and started applying to become a retailer to over 50 wholesalers! We knew we wanted a space with lots of natural light, tall ceilings, and somewhere that could accommodate our need for a natural parenting boutique as well as an eco-friendly playspace. In May, Jess found the perfect location. With the Coralville Public Library in our ‘backyard’ and West Music across the street, we knew as soon as we had a showing that this was the perfect location. We took possession of the space October 1st and in THIRTY DAYS got 2600 sqft painted, floor epoxied, 2nd bathroom built, playspace set up and designed, as well as products from those 50+ wholesalers ordered, tagged, and displayed. It was hard. Really hard. On November 2nd, we opened the doors to this beautiful space that we had built for children to play and grow in a comfortable, clean, and educational environment. We are thrilled to be here, and can’t wait to see tiny feet BOutique & playspace grow!
Coming from a nursing background, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when my sister-in-law asked me if I wanted to open a natural parenting boutique and eco-friendly playspace with her. I have worked in the healthcare field with the geriatric population at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch for the last eight years and loved (almost) every minute of it. I have always longed to stay home with my kids, but it had never been a feasible option. When I found out I was pregnant with #3 in December of 2014, and would have three children under the age of 4 beginning in August of 2015, I started thinking about how I could stay home with them and still survive financially. When Hannah asked me if I wanted to partner with her in tiny feet BOutique and playspace, it was an easy decision. The idea of working while watching my children grow and providing the community with an exciting new resource seemed too good to be true. After months and months of researching, educating ourselves, and developing and implementing a plan (in addition to working 32 hours a week, being a mom to 3 (now 4) year old Clayton and 1 year old Stella, wife to husband Jesse AND giving birth to Dallas in August), we are SO excited to open the doors to tiny feet BOutique and playspace, and hope that you are, too!
When I first heard about Tiny Feet opening last fall, I was so excited to check it out and even more excited after visiting for the first time! I absolutely adore children and love anything baby related (a big bonus for being natural!) I have ran my own in home child care program for 5 years and have the privilege of being a momma to two little ladies-Payton (3.5) and Ellie (1.5) and a wife to Lee. I am so excited and blessed to be spending more of my time playing and learning at the BOtique!
